We are recruiting a sole Legal Counsel for a global media services company offering live and on-demand event broadcasts, within the sports sector. The candidate will provide legal advice to the overall business of the company in Spain as sole Spanish legal representative. He/she must have around 8-10 years of relevant professional experience in international law firms as well and as in-house company counselling, preferably coming from the media, tech and/or audiovisual sector. Excellent level of English at a professional level, both spoken and written, is required.

The company operates worldwide, mainly in Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, United States, Canada, Brazil and Japan. It is headquartered in London (United Kingdom). It is available within said countries, on most connected devices including smart TV’s, smartphones, tablets and game consoles. By means of using world class technological infrastructure and with expertise with professionals with high-value backgrounds, it features the widest array of live, on-demand and original sports content ever offered on one platform.


It is currently searching for a Legal Counsel to partner the business team in Spain, as sole legal representative.

As sole Legal Counsel, the candidate will provide legal advice for the business on its daily legal matters. He/she shall be Spanish qualified and have strong business acumen and experience in complex commercial negotiations.


In particular, the candidate shall be expert in: (i) Commercial contracts: both from a transactional and advisory perspective, including reviewing, drafting and negotiating all types of commercial contracts, but with a special focus on those relating to the media sector and its digital distribution, such as distribution agreements, agency agreements, partnership agreements, sponsorship agreements, advertising agreements with third parties, contracts with technology service providers, terms and conditions, amongst other; (ii) Sector deals: sports rights deals, football club deals, on air shows, marketing engagements, celebrities presenting shows, commentary on games, commercial broadcasting, ambassadors, and deals with any other advertising bodies; (iii) Antitrust, Anti-privacy and Consumer protection law: related to social media, ensuring the rights of consumers as well as fair trade, competition and accurate information in the marketplace, preventing fraud or specified unfair practices from gaining an advantage over competitors; (iv) Copyright licensing: whether relating to the acquisition and/or distribution of content on third parties platforms, and other IP/IT, media or audiovisual related matters; (v) Regulatory matters: related to the press, radio, television, filming, cable, distribution technology, internet, mobile-phones, pricing; and (vi) other legal matters: such as be knowledgeable of the field where Telco companies operate, public authorities such as the CNMC, drafting legal reports, premium sports, product, operations and media production related matters.


The candidate shall be ideally knowledgeable of the media sector. He/she shall act as a real business partner, willing to take responsibility for issues which are outside the normal scope of its remit, from time to time.


He/she will be involved in, and in charge of managing and coordinating projects at a national level. He/she may have to work closely with the other in-house counsels of the company whom comprise the legal team over the globe in potential international projects, as the case may be. Will also collaborate with business owners and legal colleagues to develop process improvements and templates, as well as supporting the development of routine legal awareness and training for the Spanish business. The candidate will additionally be experienced in dealing with and coordinating external law firms advising the company.


Finally, in terms of reporting, he/she will directly report to the Senior Counsel (VP) EMEA.


We are recruiting a Spanish qualified lawyer with around 8-10 years of relevant professional experience in international law firms as well and as in-house company counselling, preferably coming from the media, tech and/or audiovisual sector. The candidate shall be capable of generally advising on a broad range of legal matters relating to commercial law, contracting, consumer, copyright licensing, anti-piracy, regulatory work, notions of antitrust, among others, in order to launch and scale up the company’s business. Capable of proactively monitoring and following-up relevant legal developments and identifying the potential impact on the business.


Excellent level of English at a professional level, both spoken and written, is required.

With excellent communication, negotiation and drafting skills, and will be used to dealing with different business departments at all levels, including at stakeholders’ level.
